Introducing Zenmaster
Zenmaster by pOrtahl® is 'The Watch as Unique as your Fingerprint'. It was designed to emanate a sense of quiet luxury, while still being suited for everyday wear.
▼
One of One Dial
Every Zenmaster is one of one. Using an 18th-century concept called 'Truchet-tiling', our algorithm creates a unique Japanese zen garden–inspired dial pattern for every watch. That means your dial pattern is as uniquely yours as your fingerprint. No two watches are ever the same.
The Math Behind The Dial
Sébastien Truchet was an 18th-century mathematician and the inventor of 'Truchet-tiling'. He introduced the idea of connecting square tiles with fixed patterns into a grid, which could then be rotated individually to create highly intricate designs.
Did you know Sébastien Truchet was also a watchmaker?
The Watch As Unique As Your Fingerprint
Materials & Coating
The case and bezel are made of surgical grade solid stainless steel, enhanced by an IPH coating – a scratch resistant surface treatment equipping Zenmaster with sweat resistance, smudge resistance and a hardness of 7.5x compared to regular steel.
Case
At pOrtahl® we love a sleek design. Our Zenmaster has an incredibly slim case height of only 10.2 mm—that's including crystal, no cheating— allowing it to slide effortlessly through any shirt sleeve.
At the heart of the design are our “hugger lugs", which gracefully embrace the sides of the case. The lugs are inspired by the concept of Yin and Yang, with one lug bending slightly upward and the other down to symbolize balance.
Finishing Techniques
We combined three different finishes on Zenmaster; sandblasting for that cold matte silver coat on the body, brushing for that linear grain on the sides, and precision polishing on the details to give Zenmaster this sense of quiet luxury
Movement
Never miss a beat thanks to a tried-and-true Japanese MIYOTA 9015 movement, part of MIYOTA’s premium line, with over 15 years of proven track record.
The Cal. 9015 is equipped with Parashock, 24 jewels, 28,800 bph (8 bps) and a generous 42-hour power reserve, allowing you to take the watch off on the weekend for a quiet "Zen Day".
Bezel & Chapter ring
We incorporated a custom fluted bezel, in a sandblasted matte silver finish to perfectly blend in with the case, while adding a refined texture.
Inside of the case on the chapter ring, you'll find our Japanese lotus petal shaped markers on the 3, 6, 9 and 12 positions.
Hands
The dauphine-style watch hands come in a rose gold IP-finish that adds warmth and sophistication to the dial.
The seconds hand features pOrtahl’s signature ring-shaped counterweight, finished with a matte silver tip.
Crystals
The Zenmaster features sapphire crystal on both the front and the open caseback, chosen for its best-in-class clarity and durability. Ranking just below diamond on the Mohs hardness scale, sapphire crystal offers exceptional scratch resistance.
Both crystals are treated with anti-reflective coating to offer a glare-free view of your one-of-a-kind dial and the MIYOTA-movement from every angle.
Easy Sizing
Each changeable link is secured with screw pins, a feature requested by our Facebook community of over 3,000 members.
Screw pins allow for easy sizing of the bracelet with the included tools. We're also throwing in 2 half links, for a perfect fit on every wrist.
Switch styles in seconds
Customize your Zenmaster look with a curated selection of premium FKM rubber straps in a variety of colors. FKM rubber is highly resistant to wear and tear, which is why it's often used in the aerospace and automotive industries.

What is the meaning of your brand name, 'pOrtahl'?
Whenever we want to know what time it is, the reason is usually stress inducing. We have to be somewhere and we want to be on time. This can make us feel anxious.
We imagine a world where people feel different when they check the time on our watches. We want our watches to allow you to escape your busy life through the dial for just an instant, every time you look at a pOrtahl watch.
The watchface is the fictional portal we escape through and our brand name was derived from the idea of that portal (pOrtahl®).
It's written with a-h-l so that everyone in the world pronounces it as we do in Dutch: 'por-taal'.
Why is this watch called 'Zenmaster'?
This watch is called Zenmaster because it teaches you that checking the time can be a moment of calm, not stress. It serves as a daily reminder to pause, breathe, and reflect.
Zenmaster is inspired by Japanese Zen gardens. Zen gardens are spaces designed for stillness, reflection, and balance.
The pattern on the dial represents the raked lines inside a zen garden and are uniquely generated by a mathematical algorithm so that no two watch dials are ever the same.
